Some of the feedback that I received from the lovely crafters at the Soul Craft Festival was that they would like to see some smaller sized yarn bowls, as a result recently when I saw some large section Walnut available, I jumped at the chance to turn it into some beautiful, chocolatey brown smaller yarn bowls. These yarn bowls measure in at 15 cm (6”) in diameter and are 7.5 cm (3”) tall and are perfect for the 50 gm smaller balls of yarn or cotton as shown.

American Black Walnut (Juglans nigra) is a tall tree, native to the eastern regions of the US, the timber is a beautiful rich, brown chocolate with an attractive figure.

Yarn bowls are a great help to keep your balls of wool from rolling away or just out of reach of curious pets or kids while you knit or crochet the hours away, they are not only handy but should also be as beautiful and crafted with the same love that you are putting into your craft.

This hand crafted yarn bowl turned in American Black Walnut. It was turned in my workshop in Heathmont, a leafy suburb of outer Melbourne and sanded and polished to a fine finish, the yarn slot is then cut by hand and sanded to allow the smooth feed out of your yarn. 

These bowls measure 15 cm x 7.5 cm (6" x 3") making it suitable for smaller balls of wool and weigh approx 350 g (0.75 lb).
